Ron is an experienced fundraising executive who has assisted over 50 non-profit institutions around the country to raise millions of dollars. He directed North Carolina State University's successful $225 million capital campaign and provided counsel to Winthrop University, Marshall University, and Georgia Tech. He has personally solicited numerous multi-million dollar investments. He has served a wide variety of clients, including public universities, independent schools, youth service organizations, historic preservation clients, and cultural and art organizations including the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center.
Ron's effectiveness in fundraising centers on leading non-profits
to adopt measurable objectives, a high degree of accountability,
and documenting the impact an organization has on its community.
As the Associate Vice President at the Georgia Institute of Technology,
Ron supervised a development staff of 35. He was the architect
who designed the campus-wide university campaign that recently
concluded with $711 million of support.
Ron's experience covers all aspects of development, including
development audits, board development, strategic planning, periodic
counsel for multi-million dollar capital campaigns. He has worked
extensively with Chambers of Commerce and Economic Development
organizations to develop strategic initiative programs and to
secure funding for their implementation.
He holds a B.A. from the University of Richmond, a Master's degree in Education, and
has completed his resident work for a Ph.D. He has spoken at CASE
(Council for Advancement and Support of Education) and AFP (Association
of Fundraising Professionals).
Ed Berry's more than 30 years as a development professional includes
extensive experience as a college development officer and as a
fundraising consultant. His in-depth expertise includes campaign
planning, donor research, prospect evaluation, leadership enlistment,
volunteer training, public relations materials preparation, records
maintenance, prospect assignment and follow-up, corporation and
foundation research and proposal writing. He is experienced in
annual fund Programs, planned giving Programs, Development audits,
and all other phases of fundraising, in addition to feasibility
studies and Capital Campaign direction.
Berry has directed numerous capital campaigns, all of which exceeded their goals, several
by more than $1 million. Campaigns he has directed include the
University of Maine System, Bangor, ME, Shaw University, Raleigh,
NC, Bethune-Cookman College, Daytona Beach, FL, Florida Memorial
College, Miami, FL, Edward Waters College, Jacksonville, FL, St.
Mary's Health Care Foundation, Richmond, VA, Elk Hill Farm, Richmond,
VA, and the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis, Indianapolis, IN. He
has also consulted with the American Red Cross, Jacksonville,
FL.
He has directed church capital campaigns for the Presbytery of
Tropical Florida, Pompano Beach, FL, the Episcopal Diocese of
Louisiana, New Orleans, LA, Christ Church Cathedral, Louisville,
KY, the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut, Hartford, CT, Maple
Springs United Methodist Church, Winston-Salem, NC, the First
United Methodist Church, Montgomery, AL, and the First Presbyterian
Church, Forest City, NC.
Berry served as Vice President for Development at Bellhaven College,
Jackson, MS, where he directed a successful $8 million capital
campaign. He was Director of Development at Montreat-Anderson
College, Montreat, NC, where he directed a successful $5.25 million
effort. At King College, Bristol, TN, he was Director of Development,
directing a successful $3 million campaign. He also directed a
successful $1.2 million campaign while Director of Development
at Lees-McRae College, Banner Elk, NC.
Berry holds a B.A. from Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL, a M.Div.
from Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, GA, and an Education
Specialist Degree in Higher Education Administration from Appalachian
State University, Boone, NC.
Ed has over 30 years of fund raising, public relations, and marketing
experience. He has been involved in 19 capital campaigns for colleges,
youth organizations, churches, hospitals, a chamber of commerce,
and social services agencies. Before beginning his work as a consultant,
he spent 15 years serving various institutions as director of
development and public relations and vice president for development.
He holds a bachelor's degree in communications from Southern
Adventist University near Chattanooga, Tennessee and a master's
degree in journalism and public relations from Ball State University
in Muncie, Indiana. Since 1980, he has held the "Fellow" certification
status with the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy.
